Love and Dating Scams
Types of Love and Dating Scam:
These type of scams can be a combination of one or more of the following:
1) Fake photos: You may be virtual dating with somebody else.
2) Real photos are used: However they require you to "pay" to get contact information, etc. The girl is hired just to milk your money.
3) Hidden costs: Sign-up could be free, but everything else requires you to pay extra fees.
4) Milking your Bank Account:
a) Buy flowers, presents etc from the dating agency to the guy/girl. In fact, the agency is making money by forcing you to "buy" things Only through them.
b) The guy/girl request expensive gifts and presents directly, e.g. birthday, daddy's birthday, etc.
c) The guy/girl is in distress and urgently need money, e.g. accidents, trapped at airport, hospitalised, etc.
d) To be continued...
Scammers will continue to come up with new variations, so we will continue to update as we find more.

She is sending using an Indian email address, but after you responded she might be sending you some blonde girls' pics with big boobs. Unfortunately, in real life "She" might just be a "He" couch potato, drinking a beer while sending out scam mails like this. Watch out!

Its nice to receive contribution like this.
From Debbie:
Just wanted to alert you to, what I believe, may be a different turn on a traditional scam. Yes, through an online dating site, he started a chat with me, which proceeded to yahoo chatting. We have/had been chatting for over 7 months ( which I was dupped to begin with). I always figured the scammers were in a rush to make their kill and then move on to the next. Oh, by the way, I have worked in the electronic financial industry for many years, so I do keep on top of money fraud & checks, etc...

"Men and women who typically work out of Nigeria or Russia (but claim to be living in America) develop relationships with Americans they meet on Internet dating sites. They send e-mails filled with romantic poetry and promises of their undying devotion, in hopes that this would assure a cash advance to pay for a fake hotel or plane bill. The victim believes that the relationship is sincere, but ends up with broken dreams and an empty pocket book.
The emotional betrayal may be worse than the lost money."

Complexity of Love Scams

This is similar to the job scams where "money mules" were recruited to help receive and remit money earned from scams, to the scammer's bank account. A money mule may not need to be located in Africa, and does not know that he has been used in a scam.
Love (scams) are used to earn the trust of victims. Once the scammers have earned that trust, it becomes their useful "tool" for any other scam, e.g. fake business venture, send cash, run "errants", or even buy a birthday present.

Subject: Privet dear!
Ave, my gentleman
I don't know about life abroad if it is better then here or not. But I know
certainly that it can't be happy if you don't love, if you are not beloved.
Am I right? Do you have everything for true happiness? As for me, I am not.
That is why I am writing you now and the reason of my letter: attempt to get
acquainted with you. I am not sure you will want to connect with Ukrainian
woman. "It's so far and how can't be sure that it doesn't attempts to
deceive me' you may think. I don't have such efforts to persuade you now
that I am do real and it is true that I like you and do want to know you, to
get acquainted with you and to invite you to my country one day. But if you
write me http://thelovingplace.net/romanticyou and if we have time to communicate, you will understand that all your fears were in vain and it worth getting acquainted.
Yourth faithfully

Hot Scam : An English man lost ?16,000 to love scam
- Article

He borrowed a total of £16,000 from his elderly mother and remortgaged his home, just to pay for the Visa and Air tickets for the girls to visit UK. They never arrive after promising several dates, and the elderly mom has to get loans to help clear the debts.
In either case, whether or not the girls arrive or not, Hodgkinson's mother still need to take out loans to clear the debt. We don't think the girls would need any cash from Hodgkinson if they were rich. So in fact, the elderly mom will be in even greater debt should the girls really arrive. Here comes the devil:
"Oh... that diamond is so so pretty... preease buyee for me..."
"Oh... that dress is so nice.... preeeease buyeee for me..."
"Oh... Oh... Oh..."
You can guess who will be saying "Ouch... Ouch... Ouch..."
The rule for long distance online dating is: never pay anything for them to travel to your country. If they love you, they will find their way and means.

Or are you just looking for friends with the same interests?
Well, online dating is definitely a great way to widen your circle of friends. It is really fun to meet many interesting people and sometimes addictive for many people. Some have even met their soul mate by meeting their perfect lifetime match through an online dating portal! It is just amazing the convenience and the benefits that online dating brings to the busy people.
