For most people with the internet, the local news just doesn’t cut it for us anymore. We want personal, in depth stories that most local news broadcasts aren’t willing to cover. Or maybe you like knowing what’s going on locally but you hate having to be on a time schedule. You are forced to listen to forty minutes of negative reports that you’ve already seen, just to hear the new story.

Luckily for us there are blogs available online that keep readers updated on the latest information. You are even able to find all of your favorite television stations broadcasters online. News blogs are great for people who are interested in reading about specific topics because the posts are often categorized by topic. For example, recently blogs have erupted on the scene and have taken American political opinion by storm. Blogs and political opinion happen to play a large role in American politics now.

But blogs aren’t limited to just politics. You can even find bloggers commenting on recent news events. When the US was bombing Iraq, bloggers of Iraqi citizens were very popular. This is where blogs really give the reader the real information from someone who is there, at the scene. It’s pretty obvious that traditional media, like the news on TV, is controlled by big business. Content is very filtered before it gets to you. I don’t know about you, but I don’t like my news filtered by anyone.

You can take advantage of blog RSS feeds to keep updated on the latest events and posts. Google Reader is also a free handy tool that will allow you to keep updated on all of your favorite blogs, all in one spot.

If you use google, you can create an account and have your favorites feeds displayed on your personalized home page. This same service is offered by Yahoo. This is probably the most convenient way to get your favorites blogs. There are also readers you can download and install in your PC wich offer a wide range of options to display and filter the content you have choosen.

If you prefer, you can receive your feed by email too. Most blogs offer this kind of service and you will get an update daily (or as often as the author updates it) on your inbox. This is too a good way to stay at the top of the news of the themes that most interest you. Personally this is my favorite way to receive updates, since I always check my email several times during the day.

If your favorite blog doesn’t offer some of this options, you can ask the author to include it. Most of them will be happy to give you this kind of service to their readers. Although most blog software nowadays have this options installed by default, so it is usually just a matter of activating them.

Nowadays I prefer blogs over watching the news, simply because I like to get the facts without having to wait through a commercial.
