There were several mails asking if a job offer is a scam. The only scam
that we think is easier to spot is the “money mule” scams. Other than
these, there are some unsolicited job offers that appear to be real but
were sent from free email addresses.

The following are some of our recommendations for sharing.

a) Never reply if the email address from the sender is a free email or
from a suspicious site.
Esp. if the sender quotes a big name, e.g. Shell, Mobil, etc, but uses
a free or non-related email address.
b) Never pay employer or agent any money for whatever reason, e.g. fees, etc.
c) Never deal with any unsolicited offers from Nigeria. Sorry, that is me.
d) If its overseas company, I would expect the employer to send a rep
over to interview me. I am unlikely to pay and fly over there unless I
intend to migrate or find other jobs in the same place.

Can’t think of anything else at the moment, but I guess the above is
more than enough to keep my bank account safe.

Please feel free to comment or add on.

The following is another example of a job scam which is not a “money mule” scam. However, they are likely to make you “pay” for something. We would not recommend sending any resume to these guys. The email addresses are too “fishy”.
