Greece, NY: Children used in Donation Scam

In the town of Greece NY, a 49-year old man was charged for scamming at
least 50 people in a donation scam. It was reported that Joseph
Tavolino used children to help him go around and solicit scam donations
for “MS Walk“.

“Police say Tavolino is a convicted felon and may have been scamming
people all over the county for as long as three years. Sometimes he
went door to door, or to businesses and restaurants, using a cane to
gain pity and sometimes telling people that he has MS.

Initially there were 30 victims who gave him money in the alleged charity scheme. Now that’s more than 50. “

MS refers to Multiple Sclerosis, a nervous system disease that affects the brain and spinal cord.
