Phishing Scam: Click this Paypal link to dispute transaction


Have you ever received an email saying that you have paid someone money through Paypal, but in fact, you didn't authorize the transaction?

Don't rush to "dispute" the transaction. If you did't authorize the payment, then it never did (unless your real paypal account shows otherwise that your account is hacked!).

Below is any email that you might receive one day, with an invoice that you have authorized the payment to someone, and that if you would like to dispute the transaction, click the "Link".

Never click on the link in an email to go to merchant or payment website, e.g. banks, paypal, ebay, etc are common targets. The link in the email below goes to:

http://www.fightbacknews.org/media/www.paypal.com/us/cgi-bin/webscr.php?cmd=_login-run

The URL is NOT pay.com, it is fightbacknews.org, which apparently is owned by the scammer.

If you use firefox, you will get this:

I just pretty much this exact e-mail. Was able to figure out that it was a scam and did not click on the link in the mail, but it was worrying. Checked PayPal and there were no recent charges.

Thanks for confirming that this is a fraudulent e-mail.

Gmail will actually not except these type of emails because if the from header doesn't match the domain paypal.com, it's a scam. This is the case most the time, there a few exceptions like Bank of America.

Best thing to do is check to see what domain the email is coming from. If it matches who they're claiming to be your probably ok.
