Taiwan alone is has clocked USD 4.52 Billion (155 Billion TWD) in 2008.

“Scam artists ran off with NT$155 billion in Taiwan last year, local media quoted a survey yesterday.

According to a poll by the National Chung Cheng University Crime Research Center, the figure exceeded the NT$116 billion netted in robberies, the Chinese-language Liberty Times said.

Scams were also the only type of crime showing a marked rise in police statistics, going to 42,910 cases in 2008 from 40,348 the year before, according to the paper. The number of fraud cases involving high amounts of money was also rising, including the loss of more than NT$10 million each by a retired bank manager in the south and by a student in the north within the last month.“
