There are many job scams on email, esp. during this time when there is
a recession. If you find a job offer that asked you help collect and
transfer funds, it is a scam. You could have been set-up to become a
“money mule”, to receive money from scam victims.
In our older articles, we informed that the scammer may not collect the money from the victim directly, so as to avoid being tracked by the police. So they find “intermediates” like you to help receive the cash. Don’t try your luck. When the police comes into the picture, all evidence will point to you, the agent who is unknowingly helping the scammer to collect the scammed money and tranfer to their account. There might be more than 1 money mule in the process.
Another possibility is that it is a fake check scam. They will send a check using another name, claiming that is the “customer”. You will then be asked to send Cash to the scammer. If you bank in the check, the bank may release the funds to you in 3 days, but 10 days later when they found that the check is fake and bounced, they will ask you to return the money. So if you have already sent cash to the scammer, you would have to return that money to the bank from your own pocket.
