820,000 Euro from Yahoo! Awards Center

Updated Aug 07.

Yahoo Awards Center Lottery or Sweepstake is a Scam.

The following is the info from Yahoo regarding this scam:
"No. There is no Yahoo! Lottery, and we would never send you information about a contest you never entered.

That’s the definition of unsolicited: you never asked for it. It showed up out of nowhere. The message probably also displays two other signs of fraud emails: it appears to be official (with company logos, even links), and it demands urgent action “to claim your prize”, or something similar.

If you’ve received a message like “ Final Notification: Yahoo! Mail Winner!” or “Your Email Address Has Won $XX million”, it’s a scam.

Don’t reply to the email, don’t click on any links in it, and never divulge any personal information. Instead, click Spam.

Yahoo! Mail will never request personal information in an unsolicited email.

If you get an email that looks like it’s from Yahoo! but tells you you’re the winner of a Yahoo! Lottery or other contest – and it asks you to email personal information to claim a cash prize or reward – click Spam to dispose of it. You can also forward the suspicious email to mail-spoof@cc.yahoo-inc.com. Thanks!

"Phishing" is a play on the word "fishing" — because perpetrators are "fishing" for your private information or trying to find ways to trick you into sending them money. Don’t be fooled! These deceptive emails are used to commit identity theft, charge your credit cards, empty your bank accounts, read your email, and lock you out of your online account by changing your password.

Check out Yahoo’s Security Center for more information on email scams and ways to protect yourself."

If you would like to verify this to satisfy yourself that you are not the lucky one, check this Yahoo page. As one of our commentators below noted, there so many winners in this page... more than the number mentioned in the mail. And if Yahoo runs a lottery, it will be a great news and the talk of the internet.

Exactly, win a lottery? Cool, shut up, deduct any fees from the winnings and send the money over. Anyway, they won't reply to this. It does silence them because I couldn't think of any logical excuse.

I don't even have a yahoo e-mail account and I got the Award Nottification (yes, spelled with two "t"s).
Mama Mia. How many times I have received confidential claims from Africa about some ree dick u less amount supposedly laying there just to picked up. Come on. I always tell them - sure, send it over and deduct your fees and taxes prior. That usually silences them.

I recieved this email this morning, and I automatically knew it was a scam, I just read it because I thought it was funny, and wanted to see how it was laid out. Funny how the email even warns you about scammers. I did a search on this just to make sure word was out about this and I am glad there are several websites out reporting this email....
Times are rough right now, and I think its disheartening to send out a scam that lets people even think you have won any money... The economy sucks right now, but all you can do is keep hope alive, and realize that money just wont come that easily to you......

Great to hear that you are not one of those contributing to the billions of dollars lost each month. *Pats on shoulder*. You have proven that you can take care of yourself. Unfortunately, not everybody is born the same.
