I am a senior citizen who was seeking a part time job when I saw the secret shopper ad on Google. It seemed simple enough as I had been previously employed in a similar capacity. I was accepted by what appeared to be an American Company & within days FEDX delivered a parcel with instructions & money orders in the sum of $2000 US. My Bank accepted and deposited the funds in my account. The next step was to transfer the funds via Money Mart to a UK address and report back on the conduct / service of the clerk. Several days later, my bank contacted me to advise that the Money orders were fake & that I owed them over $2000. Of course, I can't repay that kind of money so I'm in debt as a result. I have contacted numerous authorities offering original documents & additional information including a phone number but no one seems interested in getting back to me. Doesn't any organization care that vulnerable people are being ripped off ? All I wanted to do is be independent & make a few dollars and not depend on others.
Dear Wendy,
I am so sorry to hear about your unfortunate ordeal. I am sad to say that i have JUST gone through the same thing. I receieved an email from "Secret Shopper" saying exactly what you got. About how theyre secret shopper and that they have over 500,000 secret shoppers. I fell for it...i gave them my email and everything and i receieved a check for $3,250.00. I had no idea where it came from until i got an email saying i should have received a check for that amount and that here is a tracking number incase i do not get it. I deposited that check into my savings account. I believe the next day, i withdrew $3000 from my savings account, kept the $250 as my payment for doing the job. A couple of days later i tried to pay my bills via online and my account showed a -2,460 balance! i could not use my debit card either..my bank had frozen my account. Now i owe my bank -$2,460 and it turns out that the check was counterfei..counterfeit. The banker told me that Money transferring is untraceable so thats why "cyrus" or whatever his name had me send money that way. The one smart thing I did is that i notified him that i had sent the money to the next secret shopper and my account had frozen or i have a negative balance. I only told him that i sent it to "Maurice Lyons" but did not give him the reference number or any other information. He emailed me today saying to give him the reference number and the sender's first and last name. I will not give it to him until my crap is cleared. But regardless i owe my bank money that i cannot pay either..im 26 and now in debt when i also have to make payments on my other credit card bills.
