Is this a Scam: Dating Sites and Brief Case Study on Elite Meeting or Elitemeeting.com
- 1-14-2010
- Categorized in: Is this a Scam, Love and Dating Scams

We would like to offer some insights of how some of these membership sites started off. Most membership websites started up as a blank site, unless the website has a different marketing strategy. More often than not, you will end up chatting with people who are just like any other dating site - a working class commoner. So there is a complaint like this:
-----
There is a complaint from the complaintboard:
Hi. There is a dating site currently named EliteMeeting.com It was formerly called MeetingMillionaires.com (had to change it because of their bad reputation. They'll probably be changing it again bcz people like me are on too them and telling everyone). Please be aware of this site. It employs the old dating site trick: putting up a lot of beautiful women/men or successful men to lure you to pay the large fee to be able to contact them or read their email. PROBABLY 95% OF THE MEMBERS ARE FAKE.
I JUST signed up and got 1 or 2 emails a day from very attractive people. Their cheapest mebership is $60 for 1 month! Can you believe this? The owner is trying to become a millionaire/billionaire off this. This is the most expensive dating site membership ever.
I HAVE NOT been scammed by them. Because I did not fall for all these members emailing me (I have a very high scam-o-meter : ) I was too smart and suspicious. But I am posting this to WARN anyone of this dating site.
Also here is a link to a site where others are complaining about this dating site: http://www.daterater.org/Niche-Interest-reviews/MeetingMillionaires.com/review484.html
And remember the trick to avoiding scams? If someone contacts you or you sign up to a company (you feel could be a scam) google their/it name. Do all varitations. If they are a scam you may definitely find someone talking about them/it on a website. The internet can be a bad place, but it can be good and work to your advantage too.

Are you aware that ANYBODY can setup a dating website overnight, with just a shoestring budget? There are thousands of such sites today, thanks for the readily available social networking scripts. The cheapest script can be had for a few hundred bucks, and you can start an online dating business in less than One Thousand (1,000) US dollars.
Then you have hundreds of thousands of dating templates running at many websites selling cool templates such as these:

Its cheap to buy one off a template seller. Some even offered thousands of professional-looking templates just for a monthly fees.
A new website can be setup easily but it is empty for a start, isn't it? If you visit one of these new sites, you would like to see pictures or members there before you join. So how does the dating website convince you to join?
The following are some of their strategies, whether you like it, or not:
1) Add fake members into the site, i.e. "sleeping" members who does not exist in reality. You will get no response from them, as they are listed just to make up numbers.
2) Just one or two person to pretend that they are "active", and chat with you. By the way, they would not be the REAL PERSON as shown on the picture.
3) Hire a few real pretty women or hunks to chat online with you. But these are hired guns, they chat with you to make money from their employer, not because they love you. Well, some of you might not mind this, because you have in fact paid to chat in other real life services. Lets not get into that.
There could be more, the whole idea is that they wanted you to join because of other members inside. So if there aren't any members for a start, you will only find fake members of the above category.
How else do you think AdultFriendsFinder start? We know its a large site today, but do you think the pioneer members are really looking for friends? Probably yes, since that was an adult theme. But dating sites such as Match.Com is geared more towards love and affection, rather than just sex as in adult themes.
As in the case of EliteMeeting, we do NOT think that this is a scam site at this point. There is nothing wrong with their business model, and we think this is a GOOD business model. Make members pay to join, so that the website can have Quality members.
The problem with so MANY SCAMS and SPAMS mails these days, are due to FREE EMAILS.
Am I right, or wrong?
We used to pay for email address, until some smart guy came along to provide free email addresses. While you cannot fake your name, your real address and your ID, you can use Free Email address on the web to hide your identity.
I would say that EliteMeeting.com has been daring to ask for members to pay upfront, even though its relatively new in the market. However, this would be a great way to sieve out those cheapskate scammers from the website. So bear with the... fake members for the moment and stop complaining. If you don't like it go elsewhere where its free and chat with a Nigerian Scammer who would show you his fake picture looking like some celebrity.
P.S. We are not affiliated to EliteMeeting.com, and this is not an invitation for you to join.

I think there are many scams on such millionaire dating related sites as there are many wealthy people? But we can't deny that many real people including rich wo/men on such kinds of sites. Also, I feel curious whether MeetingMillionaires.com, MeetMillionaire.com and Elitemeeing.com share the same database or not?
i met a guy on match.com couple of months ago and i fell in love with him and he started to ask me for money and i sent him over $19.000 via western union then he came back asking for more so i reported him to the FBI and they did background check and found out he was a scammer from Nigeria. So they reported him to the authorities in Nigeria and they caught him and made him pay back all my money and also went to jail for fraud .. This worked for me and it could work for you too try you can email the fbi in charge of international fraud and scam on tonyfbiagent101@gmail.com or tonyfbiagent101@fbi.gov ....we need to get read of this scammers asap

ha! Don't believe for a second that EliteMeeting.com, MeetingMillionaires.com, or DateTallMen.com are legit. They are all total scams and do exactly what this story says. GO ELSEWHERE!!! Trust me, I did my research. I was receive a handful of emails every couple of days from the most amazing, good-looking, successful men all over the country. But, when I created a fake profile and did a search for my own profile - alas, no dice. My profile was not even public!! So, how were these men emailing me? Because they DON'T EXIST!! What a shame to take advantage of single people that honestly want to meet other singles. The CEO of this company should be put away for life. Disgusting!! Please do not waste any of your money, it's all a joke on you...
I was receiveing one or even 3 emails PER DAY for approx 58 days, there were only one or two days in that time that I didn't get one.
The last email I received was on 18 March 2011, and the payment for my membership went through on 21 March 2011. Maybe I paid it on the 18th, so they didn't need to keep sending me fake emails.
I had over 100 emails in there, they were all just quick 'hi let's chat', I replied to ALL of them, and only one replied back, he is a guy in Australia, like me, the rest were apparently good looking guys from all over the world.
And his pic is dark so I can't even see if he is good looking, he is a lot older than me, and doesn't even have any information on his profile, so for all I know he's not even legit.
Oh he did mention that elitemeeting.com will keep charging me, when I have done a once off payment of approx $200 for 3 months.
I'm a single mother with 3 kids and a mortgage! I can't afford to be spending that type of money for a scam! Oh, and the bank added fees for a foreign transaction!
I have emailed the "CEO" of elitemeeting.com saying I think he is running a scam, and not to charge me again once my membership expires, or I will take legal action.
I too have had the same experiences as described by the above-daily emails from gorgeous guys in the States when I am not in the States. All look really young 20 + in their pics even when they say they are 35-48 etc. I was about to sign up, but for the first time in doing this I typed in the name to see if there was any feedback and I found this. There must be a way to get this site investigated? Who do we report them to? Someone's becoming a millionaire by sitting watching people make a fool of themelves.
The Date Tall Men dating site is a scam. After I made a fake profile, I received many emails from very handome men who all happened to be very wealthy. They were all about 10-15 years younger than me (I'm 50). One email subject line said "You're cute" and I didn't even have any photographs posted. All the subject lines were quite flattering. I joined and emailed these guys back and there was no responses. I'll try to get my money back, but really, what are the chances? They've got me and I don't think there is anything I can do about it.
tina
I came across the DateTallmen.com site and thought I would check it out. So I posted a profile BUT didn't pay for it. Immediately had emails coming from gorgeous men and it seems they are mostly in California and most make a LOT of money and are worth like a half a billion dollars. Please. Not only that, I don't know a lot of multimillionaires that are 35! Seriously...this is such a scam!! Yeah, all of you ho paid should definitely file a class action lawsuit. I feel sorry for the people who have also had their pics used!! What an invasion of privacy!
If it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck...folks...it's a duck.
Good Luck!!!
Sucks they prey on people just trying to meet someone else.
I have had success on this site, and have met several nice ladies - and very attractive. That said, there are clearly teaser profiles.
I believe I have also been scammed. After many frustrating experiences on other dating sites, I came across "Date Tall Men.com". It is part of the Elite dating sites. I received several emails daily for about 2 weeks from extremely attractive, wealthy men. I joined up for the 3 month membership. I then emailed back all these attractive men who supposedly had interest in me. I got back a few short replies, never to hear from any of them again. Strange, huh? I am going to seek a refund.
Date Tall Men is a SCAM. Two, or three emails a day from attractive successful men. My profile didn't have anything except a brief description of myself. Couldn't read the email or respond until the membership fee was paid. $99. I SHOULD OF KNOWN BETTER! After that NOTHING. No emails. No response to my email. Nothing. I gave in to my curiosity and I was scammed!! How rude.
Glad I found this site. Thank you for sharing your stories. I was wondering why gorgeous models with phds were contacting me. Even before I put up a picture or completed my profile! Tell everyone you know who is thinking of going online to watch out for these things.
I too had the same experience but with a twist that I am now questioning. I had over 75 emails in my inbox. I became curious so I paid the monthly fee. Answered about 10 of the 70. In the meantime I had 4 respsonses that stayed in touch on the site but later carried on to email addresses, phone numbers, msn, and in one case Facebook.
Within a week of not hearing back from the original 10, I started thinking it was a scam and started to question the 4 I have been in touch with outside of the site. All have sent me candid pictures taken by themselves in mirrors (I can see the camera and flash) that are the same person as the profile pic. I am now questioning if they are real. 2 have spoken to me on the phone. The area code showing the profile state and proper code.
Please help me if you know if those willing to chat outside the site are "employee's". Now I am getting a little nervous.
Thanks, Sara
PS I cancelled my subscription after 2 weeks before the auto renewal date
I got hit up by that guy, "Tai", from elitemeeting.com some time back in '07 or '08 on myspace. He actually wrote in a message to my myspace page and said something to the effect, "Hey bud, this is a site for you". After visiting the site, I wrote him back telling him I was hardly a "millionaire". He wrote me back and said it was for both the "millionaire" type and the "stud" type (he used that word). I went ahead, signed up for the free account and posted a few pictures. I think I did one or two searches for women on there, both for LA and for Texas where I am from and where I traveled often. I noticed by most of the profiles that the majority of the women on there were in LA. All good though, since I was living in LA at the time. Immediately, I began getting anywhere from two to five email notifications of women sending me messages. Some of them seemed a little too good to be true, so I never bit the bait. Also, back then (UNLIKE now), you could send a "wink" for free. I think I sent a few winks here and there to those who sent messages but never got anything back from that. The pictures of the women I was receiving messages from seemed to indicate these women were all models or something. Anyhow, I soon stopped even opening the notification emails and would just delete them. They soon only showed up in my spam folder. Pretty soon, the notifications quit coming, or I should say, they slowed down quite a bit. I had since began dating someone off and on which lasted for some time until not too long ago. Well, recently, I got not a message from someone, but a wink. The woman's profile indicated she was in Biloxi, Mississippi. I tried to send a wink back but got a pop-up notification on the site that I had to upgrade just to do that. Well, I thought, "I'll just add this person to my favorites list and see what happens". I got a notification saying she added me to her's and then a notification of a message from her came in. The subject line, the only part a person CAN read with a free account on the site, stated "I am from _____(small town), TX". The town she mentioned is a small town not far from the small town I am from. After looking at her profile pictures and bio, and by the message I got, I am convinced that she is a real person. And since I am now back in southeast Texas permanently, I am thinking I might sign up for a month to answer her back.
I'd have to say, "go with your gut" on it. I'm going with mine. And I only plan on doing a month and then cancelling as well. Hope my story helps.
Add my name to the ones duped here. Same story!!! I have disputed the charge to my credit card and will refuse to pay the $197.95 charged for a three month membership. Never again!
omg - so glad i came across this site - almost got sucked in thinking this was a legitamate site - well no more - I will be very discerning the next time i decide to join any dating site - will ask tons of questions & get referrals.
Thanks so much for having the balls to put this out there.
Anyone who likes to see for himself that EliteMeeting is a scam is welcome to log into my profile and see how stupid I look and sound after I changed it into a fake one (like theirs) ;-)

Plese feel free to check "my" mail inbox and see all the ladies who are showing my fake caracter interest, one beautiful woman every single day for 3 months or so. None has more than 23-30% compatability. Most of the ladies photos must be stolen from social sites such as Facebook as they freequently show the ladies partying with their boyfriends. I was forewarned by reading this forum and so didn't pay them a single cent!
But be quick to check this out as the jerk running the site will obviously close "my" profile when he finds out that he is being broadcast :-)
Ive tried the site, its not bad.
I mean dating sites are not as good as meeting through a friend but hell its better than nothing.
